Heidi Muller

Heidi Muller is one of Seattle’s leading contemporary folk musicians, known as a singer-songwriter, song interpreter, guitarist and mountain dulcimer player. She has performed throughout the Northwest for 15 years and toured nationally since 1987, headlining at the Kerrville Folk Festival, Columbia Music Festival, Northwest Folklife, Islands Folk Festival and Sweet Pea. Audiences respond to Muller’s crystalline alto voice, fluid instrumental work, outstanding songs and her comfortable stage manner that puts them at ease.

A native of rural New Jersey, Muller’s early influences ranged from German zither music to her mother’s popular piano tunes. She taught herself the guitar at age 11 and played in garage bands and folk groups from high school through college. Eventually, her weekly performances at a Houston, TX pub inspired her to continue in music when she moved to Seattle. She became a Victory Music board member and reviewer, produced community concerts, took up the mountain dulcimer, began teaching and founded the Washington State Mountain Dulcimer Society.

Since 1985, Muller has released four recordings: Between the Water and the Wind, Matters of the Heart, Cassiopeia and Giving Back. Her song "Good Road" is the theme song for Northwest Public Radio’s Inland Folk show, heard in four northwestern states and Canada. Matters of the Heart was nominated for Best Folk Album of the Year in the 1990 Northwest Area Music Association awards. A finalist in the Kerrville Folk Festival’s New Folk songwriting contest in 1989, Muller’s songs have been selected for Fast Folk, Victory Music and Northwest Folklife compilations. They have been recorded by artists including Small Potatoes, Marsha Webb, Gail Rundlett, Straw Into Gold and Waterbound.

Muller also gives lessons and workshops in Seattle and on tour, teaching all levels of mountain dulcimer, folk guitar styles, songwriting and music business skills.
